A snail pays homage to its shell

Daily writing prompt
What do you love about where you live?
Evolved into a whorl, dead right for
Me - my home, my world: my everything -
It serves to save my flesh: preserve from gnaw
Of noxious beast, that satiate would fling
My shell away, its purpose done, then sleep
A while and dream of how, so skeletal
In inner support, unseen things creep
To feed on it, falling like a petal
But feeding like hogs on meat that they'd fell
Upon, so haply unprotected. Teeth
Tear away that meat from bone, like a thief
Pulls beauty from its bed. None left to tell,
Peal it out across the land like church bell,
How much better to live in my hard shell.

With love
The smuggest Snail still living.
