If you had a million dollars to give away, who would you give it to?

If all I had was mine to give away,
I might give it. My choice, left with nothing
To be or not to be: being alone,
Not having, might be solely my purpose
Were life ever to be that abstract thing
Such questions tend to assume that it is.
Meanwhile having a 'million dollars
To give away' means you've no use for it,
Being surplus to your needs, where it goes
Only idle speculation. A whim
Or fancy that feeds some grotesque image
Of self as ever-giving. Cheaply bought
At the cost of a sum conditional
On precisely not having it, not now
Or ever. Thus still in mind kindness lives
What matters it that then that the world dies
In want of all you have, enriched again
By your thoughts alone - life's not yours to give.
All my love
