‘… If / I have the time to work / Before ending up stiff / In death, I hope I shirk / Dreams. ….’ A doggerel verse for a dogged time and a worse prompt! LOL.

What’s your dream job?

A dream job?

If your job is a dream
Then dream on in silent
Assurance that to seem
Is enough. Violent
Sounds raise the alarum
That bruits wretched war,
Dispatch to a harem
A child, in fear of law
That favours the powerful:
The privileged man,
Who knows not how hurtful
Hands that go where they can
Get access are. To rape
Remains the right of might,
Dispossession the fate
Of towns laid low by blight,
Or bodies likewise. If
I have the time to work
Before ending up stiff
In death, I hope I shirk
Dreams. For too much remains
To be done to redress
Injustice. Too many pains
Needed to claim success
In rowing back against sick selfish creeds
To think that a dream will do and not deeds.
