An acrostic and a concrete verse with wings, for dear friend, Joanne, and daughter (as promised in a foolish moment).

Gifted with this picture, Joanne, that laughter
Bonding mother’s cheer with daughter hereafter.

Acrostic! you silly thing!
So let concrete verse take wing
Joanne, let my caring love, see you safe
Over bridges where danger flows beneath
And praise those careful steps across the heath
No person treads without storms, skin will chafe
Now and thin in inclement weather, But we
Ever onward aim, the fine sun to see.
I feel the strength of friendship in your beating wings,
I know that friendship helps support those things
That lessen pain. To me it brings
Joy, even when it sings
Sadly, what springs,
Nay!, rings
Out
Like sound
With loving bound.
No harm will me confound.
But guard me, as if hope’s elk-hound
Sleeping, though alertness casts far around
Certain safety, friendship’s bud rooted in firm ground.

Love you, Joanne
