‘Requiescat in Pace’, perhaps, sweet heart!

Just in the nick of time the bitterest

Undercurrents of sore feelings began to

Swell, into a parting wave, thence to rest

Till soothed away. But then I heard that you,

Insulted to the heart by life, were cold, no grave

New inquiry holds you down: nothing, save

*

In truth, either you or me, since both will

Sorry time’s vacant hole soon fulfill.

*

Down to the depths of what I feel I dive

Expecting there some meaning finally

And richly to find. In deeps, to survive

Depends on still taking some breath, you see.

*

Now you will rest, though many times and more

Over again, that Princely name is heard,

Whilst my heart breaks and, for a time, is  raw,

REST IN PEACE
