An ODE to the wit and wisdom of Nadine Dorries as our new Culture Secretary. By Steven Douglas Bamlett

@StevenBamlett

I wrote a couplet on Twitter (https://twitter.com/StevenBamlett/status/1438205482523635728) on Nadine Dorries for a good friend: Justin by name. He then worried me by saying he thought the little couplet ‘what I wrote’ (going Morecambe & Wise on him now) might be doing honour to Nadine Dorries. There is nothing like that comment to force you to make yourself clear.

So this the original:

Nadine Dorries is to culture

A carrion choice, a vulture.

Here’s the new one; Thank you Justin.

Nadine Dorries thinks the meat of culture

Smells rank, the carrion of a vulture.

Works of ‘art’, so call’d, to which she grovels

Are stuff as dead – as her unctuous novels.

Unfair to vultures! Beautiful creatures:

In their home culture WAR never features.

Now gird your loins, those to whom culture lives

Only free of privilege hate now gives

To white traditions, history defined

As oppression, inequality enshrined

In a frame of g(u)ilt. So let’s hear it so

Nadine will know that her hatefulness will show.
